Loving Earth: A Legacy of Lockdown Summer Exhibition

Sustainable Merton, Merton’s local environmental charity, is excited to be hosting its first ever local exhibition to showcase the stunning, heart-warming and thought-provoking legacy that has been created by Merton residents as part of its Loving Earth

The exhibition will take place from 28th June - 9th July at Centre Court Shopping Centre, who generously offered the space to display the exhibition. Everyone is invited to come along for free to view this creative record of people’s experiences and thoughts during the coronavirus pandemic in relation to the environment.

The project, in partnership with the Loving Earth Project and supported by the Merton Giving Fund, supported people with their wellbeing during these challenging times, building a sense of community and offering a creative outlet for many. People of all abilities were asked to create a textile panel that captures their feelings towards the environment, with a vision for a better, more sustainable future, and to share their personal story behind it.

Ellie Smallshaw, Projects and Campaigns Coordinator at Sustainable Merton commented: “The project has created an alternative way for people to express how they think and feel about environmental issues. Despite the isolation lockdown has brought for many, the workshops have brought people together, to learn creative skills and share experiences. The panels are truly inspiring, yet still convey important environmental messages.”
